Short Bio

Joining the UK's Number One Swing Band “The Jive Aces” at seventeen, Dutch-born jazz singer and songwriter Thisbe Vos has performed in clubs, festivals, national radio and television shows, and toured over 30 cities in Europe and America.

In 2008 she moved to Los Angeles with the goal of finding jazz musicians with whom she would record a vocal album in the style of traditional jazz, containing standards and originals. Her music ensemble is now made up of veteran musicians with an average of forty years experience and includes several gold-recording artists, among whom bassist Henry Franklin.

“Sophistication”, released in September 2011, was that album and brought to the Jazz Listener the contemporary sound quality demanded of today's productions while preserving the style that has made Jazz the genre par excellence of the sophisticated music lover. This album debuted six original “standards” which bring the sound of traditional jazz to life.

This was followed by “Under Your Spell”, a fan-funded album officially released in April 2013. Thisbe dramatically expanded the array of instruments, including classic violins and woodwinds in sophisticated arrangements. Worthy of mention is her original “Shanghai Blues”, a song inspired by and written in Shanghai, China. This album resulted in enthusiastic reviews from the jazz community and was in rotation on over 230 radio stations in the US & Canada.

Thisbe states that her inspiration comes from Ella Fitzgerald whom she considers her unofficial mentor, and from her extensive travels. As a songwriter, she is influenced by the Gershwin brothers, Cole Porter and Irving Berlin. Through her continued writing of jazz originals, she hopes to make a meaningful contribution to the future repertoire of the genre.
